We’re searching for a DJ to add energy and excitement to our private events, open skating sessions, and special programs. Do you have a love for music and a talent for creating an upbeat atmosphere? Roller Skate Detroit is looking for a DJ to join our team and ensure our events are unforgettable. We’re willing to train the right candidate, so if you’re enthusiastic about music, rhythm, and entertainment, this could be the perfect role for you. This part-time position is great for someone ready to develop their skills in a fun, community-focused setting.
Role + Responsibilites
Collaborate with the Event Manager to ensure the music complements the event schedule and theme.
Set up, operate, and maintain DJ equipment (training provided).
Craft engaging playlists tailored to event themes and our diverse audience.
Provide the soundtrack for private events, open skating sessions, and other special occasions at Sohlara.
Event flow: cultivating a sense of narrative direction in the audience - fluctuating crowd energy levels to create peaks of intense focus on key moments
Also part of that role is ensuring that music enhances a speaker's content and never overpowers it
Maintain our brand standards when interfacing with clients / vendors / venue staff
We expect you NOT to be a jukebox; by clarifying client expectations beforehand we ensure you have the agency to use your skills to deliver the overall experience the client has envisioned
Have weekend availability which includes mostly Saturdays and an occasional Sunday or Friday

Knowledge/Skills + Abilities
Passion for Music: Love for various genres and the desire to create memorable experiences.
Music mixing skills & experience
Ability to read the crowd and be able to play music appropriate to the demographics and have the ability to entertain
Knowledge of roller skating culture is a PLUS.
Willing to adjust music styles and playlists based on event needs and audience feedback
Positive attitude
Possess a high-energy/enthusiastic attitude and approach, as well as a fun and outgoing personality is key to this position
Remain calm under pressure
Must be able to play music with or without a laptop
Excellent verbal communication skills
Professional in dress and performance
Must be dependable, punctual, and able to work evenings, weekends, and holidays
Valid Drivers License and/or Passport
No Experience Required: We’re open to training candidates with a strong interest in becoming a DJ
